We're very excited we're going to be the first in the state to offer this new beer from Black Hog Brewing in Oxford. Thurs., December 4th, at 5pm, come meet the Brewer, Tyler Jones, and have the new beer: Bacchanalian Barleywine.

Beer description: This style was deemed a wine by the King of England for fear of over intoxicating his subjects thinking it was a mere beer. Ours is more than fit for a King and meant for the God of drink, revelry and frenzy. At 10.5% abv this brew is an orgy of American and British Malts, Hops and Yeast producing an earthy, cracker sweetness with a big bitter pop and slight citrus hop.

We'll be closed for the Labor Day holiday on Sunday and Monday, 8/31 and 9/1. But you can still get some wings for your picnic or barbecue via our Cold Wing Pack. Pre-order them and pick them up Friday or Saturday. Here's how it works:

With the Cold Wing Pack, your wings will be cooked through, then chilled, with the sauce on the side. You can then re-heat them at home so you have them nice and hot whenever you prefer. We provide re-heating instructions, which are really easy. And, they're great on the grill too!

We've been testing new wing flavors for months (and months). Drum roll please.....the new flavor is...Sweet Red Chili! The best of both worlds, a 'lil sweet-ish with a slight spicy kick. The charred, crispy bits are the caramelized sauce.

We'll be closed on Friday, July 4th. But you can pre-order wings for your picnic via our Cold Wing Pack. The wings will be cooked, then chilled. Pick them up on Thursday, the 3rd, and then re-heat them at home in the oven, or on the grill! The sauce will be on the side and we provide simple re-heating instructions. On Thursday, May 15th at 11:30am we'll be tapping special beers from New England Brewing (Fuzzy Baby Ducks, Galaxy, Scrumtrulescent Saison along with 668), two special beers from Relic Brewing and Back East Summer Ale.

We are proud to announce our 22nd annual "J. Timothy's Golf Classic" to be held on Wednesday, May 14th. When we first started the golf outing to benefit the Plainville Community Food & Fuel Pantry we had a field of 62 golfers. Since then, 20+ years later, we have grown to a field of around 200 golfers and are proud to announce that with the support of the local community we have raised over $250,000!

It's our building's 225th anniversary! Yes, it was built in 1789 and now, in 2014, we are enormously proud to call it home and to continue the taverne tradition started by John Cooke in 1789.

From Monday, April 21st through the end of the month, April 30th, we are offering a 3-course, full dinner for only $17.89, available every day after 4:30pm. We're featuring colonial-inspired fare with a modern twist (see the menu below). We'll also have craft Mead and Barleywine available. We want to celebrate our building's rich heritage - serving travelers and guests for 225 years - by serving wonderful dinners at a great price. $17.89! Roasted Lamb, Colonial Beef Stew, Cinnamon Roasted Chicken, or Turkey Croqutettes with your choice of soup/salad, and dessert.

02-02-2014     Wings for the Super Bowl: Pre-order

Want wings for the Super Bowl? Of course you do! But make sure you pre-order them in advance so you don't get shut out. Here's the info:

1. Call us at (860) 747-6813 to pre-order your wings. Pre-orders start on Friday, January 24th but you don't have to call that day; just give us a call during Super Bowl week, preferably before Friday.

2. We strongly/highly/really recommend ordering our Cold Wing Pack and picking them up on Saturday. With the Cold Wing Pack, your wings will be cooked through, then chilled, with the sauce on the side. You can then re-heat them at home so you have them nice and hot whenever you prefer. We provide re-heating instructions, which are really easy.

3. If you order wings for pick up on Saturday, you can get any size you like, e.g. single (10), double (20), or a bucket of about 40. But if you want to pickup your wings on Sunday, please note: we only serve buckets of wings for take out on Super Bowl Sunday. Also, we do not serve any other items for take out on Super Bowl Sunday, just buckets of wings.

Pick up on Saturday: anything from our menu and any size order of wings.

Pick up on Sunday: buckets of wings only.

The first Playoff Round was held Thurs., August 8th. Three teams tied; we needed a Tiebreaker Wing Off and still, two teams were tied! So they both advance to the Finals (Thursday, August 22nd).

We're so excited and grateful to the teams and their supporters. Everyone had a great time (check out the pictures, so much FUN) and LOTS of money was raised for Make-A-Wish.

And the Hartford Courant did a story on the competition; we have TWO former Wish Kids competing this year. They both are grateful for what Make-A-Wish did for them, so they want to give back. Definitely worth a read, check it out here.

We're going to hold our 2nd TweetUp Beer Tasting, this time to taste some beers to help us select our winter beer list. Details:

When: Monday, October 29th, 6:30pm-8:30pm ish.

Why: We want your feedback on what winter beers we should offer. And, we love to meet fellow Tweeps.

What: First, follow us on Twitter. We'll have an array of winter beers to taste and we'll be asking you to rate them. For your (ahem) hard work, we'll also supply free wings. Yes, free beer & free wings. Great night? Or greatest night?

Who: Attendees will be selected randomly. Registration will open on Weds., 10/24 in the afternoon and will close on Fri., 10/26 at 10AM. We'll Tweet out the link to the brief registration form on Wednesday. Jon Stack from HDI (beer distributor) will be there. His offical work title: Beer Enthusiast. And while you don't need that "official" title to attend, please only reply if you are a beer enthusiast. Seating is very limited. One attendee per Twitter handle. Sorry, no guests.

The first Beer Tasting TweetUp was great! Not only did our Twitter followers help us choose a great beer list, but it was really fun talking beer and meeting new folks. Here are a couple of pics from the first TweetUp. Yea, they're not great, but we were having too much fun talking about beer to care. That's our Bar/Beer Manager Rino who, along with Jon Stack, led the discussion about beer.

Tasting beer, talking about beer with fellow beer lovers, and eating wings. Not a bad way to spend a Monday night.

07-01-2012     Plainville Wings & Wheels - Great New Event, July 1st

We're excited and proud to be participating in a fantastic new event, Plainville Wings & Wheels, July 1st at Robertson Airport. It's a Fly-in (airplanes) and Car (classics) show benefiting the Petit Family Foundation and the Plainville Community Food Pantry.  Here's a description:

The goal of this event is twofold; the first is to raise funds for the Petit Family Foundation and the Plainville Community Food Pantry. The second goal is to bring the residents of our community and surrounding towns together and offer a day of entertainment and family fun with opportunities to see and experience the world of flight and classic automobiles.

J. Timothys will offering some great food including sandwiches and dessert (more on that later), but for now, mark this event/date on your calendar for a great day of family fun and charity.

We have several private rooms available; hosting everything from baby/wedding showers, intimate celebratory dinners, to wedding receptions. Here's a great post from CT Party Studios (DJs and lighting services) showcasing a recent wedding reception held in our Gathering Room.  Their DJ was great, and look at the fantastic lighting they provided! And the newly-married happy couple and their friends and family were wonderful!

05-22-2012     Tweetup Beer Tasting, and Wings of course

If you're on Twitter, you know what a Tweetup is: people who interact on Twitter meet in person. We're doing one; here are the details:

Why: We wanted to get input from our Twitter followers on what beers to add to our summer beer list. Our Twitter followers really know and really love beer.

What: We'll provide the chicken wings (lots of 'em) and the small tastings of our potential summer beers. Must be 21+ to attend. Other drinks/beers are not included.

When #1: On Tuesday (5/22) afternoon sometime we'll announce the Tweetup and the first 10-12 people to reply will get to attend. This is going to be all about beer, so please don't reply if you don't like/drink beer. 

When #2: The Tweetup/Beer Tasting/Free Wings event will be Thursday, 5/24 from 8-10pm.

Who: Rino Ouellette, our Beer/Bar Manager and, Jon Stack, of Franklin Beer Distributors (whose official title is "Beer Enthusiaist"), will both be there to talk beer, beer, and more beer! And eat wings, too, of course. 

We're excited! Can't wait to meet some folks on Twitter and to hear what beers they think we should feature for the summer! Please don't reply if you're not sure you can attend; space is obviously limited.

05-13-2012     Mother's Day Menu & Reservations

Mother's Day is Sunday, May 13th.  We are taking reservations for parties of all sizes; please call (860) 747-6813 and speak to a Manager to make a reservation.

We will open at 11:30am and our last reservation will be seated at 4pm; after those seated at 4pm have enjoyed celebrating with their Moms, we will close for the day so our staff can spend time with their Mom.

Our regular full menu will not be available. We will be serving a limited and special menu, posted below.

We're excited to announce that the 21st Annual J. Timothy's Golf Classic will be held Weds., May 16th at Tunxis Plantation.  This event benefits The Plainville Community Food Pantry and is dedicated to the memory of Ernie J. Brackett.

Sponsorships are available and prizes will be awarded for winning Men's, Women's, and Mixed Groups, including a chance for a new 2012 Buick Verano (courtesy Parsons Buick of Plainville) for a hole-in-one.  Registration includes lunch on the course, 18 holes of golf with cart, a commemorative gift and goody bag, and dinner reception and raffle prizes.

The owners and managers of J. Timothys took a day to visit the Sam Adams Brewery in Boston, where they learned more about the brewing and distribution process.  They probably sampled a few beers, too.

Easter is Sunday, April 8th.  We are taking reservations for parties of all sizes; please call (860) 747-6813 and speak to a Manager to make a reservation.

We will open at 11:30am and our last reservation will be seated at 4pm; after those seated at 4pm have enjoyed their holiday meals we'll close for the evening so our staff can spend time with their families.

Our regular full menu will not be available. We will be serving a limited and special menu that includes some of the staples from our regular menu like Prime Rib, French Onion Soup, Chicken Pot Pie and, of course, chicken wings!  And we'll have wonderful specials available including Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail, Carved leg of Lamb, Baked Applewood Ham, Baked Stuffed Shrimp, and Grilled Scallops, and more.

04-02-2012     Call Ahead Seating Discontinued

After many internal discussions, and significant feedback from our guests, we have decided to discontinue our call-ahead seating policy.  We experimented with this policy in order to improve service and convenience for our guests. Unfortunately, we have found that while in theory it was a good idea, in practice it was - more often than not - a frustrating experience for guests. 

We will be seating on a first-come, first-served basis from this time forward (and will continue to take reservations for groups of 6 or more). We are truly sorry for any inconvenience this may cause but we believe this is the best way to service our guests. Thank you for your continued patronage.

03-31-2012     Buffalo Shrimp & Sweet Potato Fries

Guests talk and we listen! By popular request, we've added Buffalo Shrimp and Sweet Potato Fries back to the menu.

The Buffalo Shrimp are 6 shrimp lightly breaded and fried, then dipped in our Buffalo Sauce. Served with lemon and bleu cheese.

The Sweet Potato Fries can be had as an appetizer (served with two dipping sauces; chipotle ranch and sweet/sour chili pineapple) or as a side (slight extra charge) for any sandwich.

Irish Beer? Of course. We'll have Harp, Guinness, and Killkenny on tap, plus Killians in a bottle.

Irish Food? Yes. The menu will feature some great specials including fresh Corned Beef & Cabbage and Banger's and Mashed with Nodine's sausage. And a special dessert.

Music? Sure. A fun band that will definitely have you singing along to "When Irish Eyes are Smiling" and many more.

It was our pleasure to donate food and cook at the Plainville High School Emergency Shelter during the aftermath of the storm.  Thanks to our staff and the other fantastic volunteers.  Check out some pictures!
